A WOMAN who caused a train crash when she parked on a level crossing in a suicide bid has been admitted to a mental health hospital.

Heather Bister, 46, of Austin Drive, Banbury, was arrested after she stopped her car on the Sandy Lane level crossing in Yarnton on November 12 last year. A Cross Country train hit her car but she escaped with minor injuries and no one else was hurt.

She admitted endangering safety on the railways and appeared at Oxford Crown Court yesterday to be sentenced.

Bister asked to be remanded in custody after she twice tried to go to Oxford railway station to throw herself in front of a train.

She has now been made subject to a hospital order under the Mental Health Act after being diagnosed with a mental disorder and will be treated at Littlemore Mental Health Hospital.
