IT WAS a sight to behold as a convoy of classic cars left Bicester for the capital.

Members of the All Party Parliamentary Historic Vehicles Group met at a former World War Two RAF air base, now Bicester Heritage, before their bi-annual run to Westminster.

Among those who brought a car along was Sir Greg Knight, group chairman, and Bicester MP Sir Tony Baldry, who took his MGB along with Miranda Markham, from Bicester Village outlet shopping centre.

About 80 classic cars were at the site, off Buckingham Road.

Bicester Heritage managing director Daniel Geoghegan said: “With visiting cars ranging from a 1971 Range Rover to an ex-Works racing Jaguar C-Type, and a thriving catering facility, Bicester Heritage felt very alive with a real buzz here.”

Visitors were given a tour of the site, which is being renovated to create a multi-million pound heritage motor and aviation business park.

After lunch cars left in a convoy with the oldest, a 1935 Derby Bentley, driven by Lord Cope of Berkeley, taking the lead via Aylesbury, Amersham, Watford, Brent Cross and Swiss Cottage.

Sir Tony said: “Everyone of those classic cars told a different story.

“I think Bicester Heritage is going to be, in due course, a great resource for the town. It’s a hell of a project they are taking on and is funded all entirely on private money.”
