A TEMPORARY classroom will be replaced at a Kidlington primary school as there is no cash available for a permanent building.

Oxfordshire County Council has applied to replace an existing temporary classroom at North Kidlington Primary School in Benmead Road. It would go on the same site within the school grounds.

The council said of the existing building: “It is beyond economic repair, and needs to be replaced.

“The school has increased its admission number from 40 to 45 pupils to provide school places for a growing population of children in the area.

“Though there is currently some surplus capacity in the older year groups, this will be removed as the larger cohorts of pupils move up the school.”

To meet this new admission number, the school must have 315 places from reception to Year Six, it said.

The application added: “The pupil places cannot be provided in any other existing accommodation at the school.

“No funding is identified to replace the temporary unit with permanent build.”

The number of pupils will increase until at least 2021, it said.

County councillors will make a final decision at a later date.
