A PUB landlord, hit by a car on holiday in Portugal, has no recollection of what happened and could be in hospital for up to a year, his family say.

Stan Hawkeswood, who has run the Queen’s Head in Horspath for nine years, was flown home on a special medical flight to Oxford Airport last Tuesday. His daughter Amy, 27, said he had been taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital for a full body and CT scan.

She said: “It showed that dad has multiple broken ribs, a broken collar bone and broken tibia. The bleed on the brain is a significant one and the doctors have told us to expect him to be in hospital for months and anything up to a year.”

She said he had undergone a four-hour operation to insert a metal rod into his tibia and added: “He is improving by the day, he is managing to say a few words and is now feeding without the tube.

“He doesn’t know who we are and has a very short-term memory.

“He has no recollection of the accident.”

Mr Hawkeswood was on a golf trip in the Algarve with members of the Horspath Golf Society.

An event at the pub raised more than £1,500 towards the £16,500 medical flight.
