YOUNGSTERS braved drizzly conditions for archery lessons at South Oxford Adventure Playground.

The session was among weekly events at the adventure playground off Whitehouse Road.

Adventure Plus instructor Ben Cooper, from Witney, said: “Archery is always quite popular because of how much it is seen on TV and film in things like Robin Hood. It’s really good fun. I always enjoy teaching because I’m helping the kids have fun.

“We also do climbing, canoeing and hiking.”

St Ebbe’s Primary School pupil Maya Finlayson, 10, who lives in South Oxford, said: “I was doing it with my friends. I liked getting a bullseye.”

The session, last Thursday, was organised by trustees of the adventure playground, who received £10,000 from the National Lottery’s Awards For All fund. It is being spent on activities including sports, art and dance for local youngsters to take part in.

Playground trustee Megan Douthwaite said: “These kinds of activities are great because the kids get outside doing activities and also build self-confidence.

“Adventure Plus have been really good with the kids and have put on some good sessions that are easy to drop in and out of.”

On Tuesday, Adventure Plus is holding a climbing session, using a mobile climbing wall, from 3.15pm to 5.15pm.

The weekly sessions will run until July 12.
