RAINBOW hairpieces sat atop children’s heads to raise vital funds for young people battling cancer.
More than 60 children aged between 11 months and four took part in the fundraiser for yesterday’s Wig Wednesday event.
Little ones at Jack Straw’s Lane day nursery, in Headington, swapped their usual attire for brightly-coloured wigs, hairdos and clothing, in support of children’s cancer charity CLIC Sargent.
Deputy nursery manager Caroline Potter said: “The whole day was amazing. The children were just fantastic. They love dressing up anyway and they had a great time.”
Youngsters also spent the morning baking and decorating sweet treats for their Wig Wednesday cake sale.
Mrs Potter said: “They all tried hard and made a big effort. It has been a fantastic day.”
Pre-school supervisor Lois Smith said it was important for the team to get involved with the event after staff member Natasha Smith’s involvement with the charity. When her five-year-old nephew was diagnosed with Leukaemia aged one, the charity’s Home from Home centre supported the family during the cancer treatment.
CLIC Sargent’s community fundraising manager Benjamin Herbert said: “I just want to say a massive thank-you for the support, as we would not be able to help the 6,000 families we support every year without this fundraising.”
