VISITORS got a closer look at wind energy with a tour of the Westmill Wind Farm in Watchfield.

Members of the public had a guided tour of the wind farm and adjacent solar park, which was organised by the Westmill Sustainable Energy Trust (WeSET).

The charity encourages people to cut their energy consumption and to switch to renewable energy sources like wind and solar power.

Volunteer guide David Abley regularly shows people around.

He said: “We want to promote sustainable energy and to encourage that we have lots of trips there.

“It’s a chance for people to get up close and personal with sustainable energy. They come out more able to make a decision on the issue.”

The Chinnor resident, 49, added: “Usually the biggest surprise is the noise issue.

“For people who live nearby that’s a big concern but people usually say turbines are a lot less noisy than they thought.”

Westmill Windfarm is owned by the Westmill Wind Farm Co-op, which gives WeSET £6,500 every year.
