TWO Oxfordshire girls are almost within reach of their lifelong dream as they get ready to perform in the semi-finals of TV’s Britain’s Got Talent this week.

Renetta Eagle, 19, from Headington, Oxford, and Ebony Cantwell, 16, from Grove, are two-thirds of girl group REAformed.

They were fast-tracked through the competition when judge Alesha Dixon pressed her golden buzzer for them on their first audition, which sent them straight to the semi-finals.

Now, one night this week, former Cherwell School pupil Renetta could see her lifelong dream a step closer to reality.

She told the Oxford Mail: “This is what I want to do, ever since I was little, it’s all I’ve wanted.

“When I was younger I sang to my family with a pepper pot microphone.

“This is a career where it either happens or it doesn’t.”

Ebony, who goes to King Alfred’s Academy, Wantage, said: “It’s absolutely crazy. We are literally living our dream.”

Renetta and Ebony have been friends since Renetta was 12, and they competed in city contest Talent Oxford.

After that they gigged in venues around the city and sang in groups with other friends.

They met third member Alexis Economou, 21, through their vocal coach just six months ago, and applied for Britain’s Got Talent.

In their first live audition, filmed in February, the girls sang Kiki Dee’s I’ve Got the Music in Me.

Former Mis-Teeq singer and BGT judge Alesha Dixon was so impressed she slammed on the golden buzzer, which sends acts straight to the semi-final without having to go through heats.

But the girls had to keep their success under wraps until the episode was televised earlier this month.

Ebony, who lives with her mum Kerry and little brother Duquane, said: “We hadn’t been briefed on the golden buzzer, it was all a total shock. I just kept trying not to think about the fact that we were singing on national television. Thankfully the judges were lovely.”

Now the trio have been working up a storm in the showbiz world, after Alesha praised them as the best girl group to have appeared on the show.

Renetta, who works at Apricot fashion store in Queen Street, Oxford, said: “As soon as it was aired it was all quite exciting, doing press interviews with The Sun and the Daily Mail. A lot of our friends saw us on TV but for me I just want this to get me where I want to be.”

One day this week, they don’t know when yet, the girls will be called up to perform the song they have been rehearsing for weeks.

Once again they have been sworn to secrecy, but Renetta said: “People will definitely be able to sing along.”

During the live semi-finals, viewers around the country will cast their votes for their favourite acts to go through to the final.

Renetta said: “Obviously, you never know how it’s going to go, we’re just planning to work as hard as we can and really perform on the night.

“That way, whatever happens, we know we have done the best we can.”
