A 26-YEAR-OLD man has been convicted of four counts of rape and two assaults which inflicted actual bodily harm.
Lewyn Rudge, of Valentia Road, Headington, was found unanimously guilty of the charges yesterday by a jury at Oxford Crown Court.
The offences took place between August 2008 and January last year and relate to two women who cannot be identified for legal reasons.
Graham Smith, prosecuting, said that Rudge had exhibited “volatile and violent” behaviour, which had culminated in rapes and serious assaults.
The defendant bowed his head as the verdicts were read out yesterday and there were gasps and sobs from the public gallery.
During the trial, a recording of a police interview with one of Rudge’s alleged victims was played to the jury, in which she claimed he subjected her to violent attacks.
She told detectives: “He’s nuts, a dirty fighter, he would do anything to hurt me.
“He would take everything out on me – I was his little punch-bag.”
Judge Gordon Risus remanded the defendant in custody and said: “There can be no question of any non-custodial sentence.”
Rudge was found not guilty of a further four counts of rape and three counts of ABH.
He will now be sentenced at the crown court on July 3.
