THE new chairman of Grove Parish Council says she is looking forward to taking developers to task and getting the best facilities for the village.

June Stock, a Grove resident of 40 years, was voted in as chairman at a full council meeting on May 27.

She takes over from Frank Parnell, who was chairman for 12 years.

Mrs Stock said she wanted to make sure housing developments like Grove Airfield, where 2,500 homes were given planning permission in December, are built right.

She said: “It is about making sure we get as much as we can from section 106 agreements, where the developers give money or buildings. We are interested in the plan for a community hub at the airfield.”

Vale of White Horse District Council gave developers Taylor Wimpey and Persimmon permission to build 2,500 homes on the former Second World War airfield in December. Another 1,500 homes have permission at Crab Hill, and 200 at Stockham Farm.

Mrs Stock worked at Grove’s Crown packaging plant for 32 years before retiring.
