THE Cheshire cat will show off some urban dance moves in an alternative student version of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland.

City of Oxford College students will perform their show, Wonderland, at the Pegasus theatre, East Oxford, tomorrow and Friday.

The show has no speaking in it and the story is all told through dance – tap, ballet, contemporary jazz and street.

Tray Sam, 17, from Cowley, who plays the part of the grinning feline, said: “It is basically the story of Alice but in dance form.

“People had mixed emotions about it. Some people said we’re not going to be able to do it, others said they thought it would be really good. It has turned out all right – rehearsals have been very intense since January.”

The adaptation uses projections to fill in any gaps that cannot be told in the story with dance. For the students, the run-up to show night is especially nerve-wracking as it is also their final project in a two-year Btec in Dance.
