A canary that was found in Albert Street, Jericho, on Monday, still needs to be reunited with its owner.

George West, from Headington, thought it might be his missing pet, which escaped on Sunday.

He said: “My son Chris was cleaning out the cage, which had 15 in it, with my seven-year-old granddaughter Grace, and apparently she left the door open so one of them escaped.”

But Ania Rybacka, who found the bird, said: “It has a distinctive black mark on its left-hand side, which Mr West’s bird doesn’t.”

If you know who owns the canary, call Mail reporter Alex Wynick on 01865 425403.
