THE parking problem at Wallingford’s only doctors’ surgery has become so bad some patients are missing appointments, according to the town council.

Now it is being proposed football pitches should be moved to create more parking spaces.

The Reading Road practice, which has 16,000 patients, shares car parking facilities with neighbour Wallingford Community Hospital and during the week there is a big demand for spaces.

The town council raised the issue last year but said there has been no improvement since.

Town councillor Bernard Stone said there was an urgent need for the problem to be addressed and suggested some green space next to the site should be used to create extra car parking spaces.

He added: “A large proportion of patients are elderly and need to park at the site and some of them have missed appointments because they have not been able to park. If anything, the problem is getting worse.”

Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust said it was aware of the problem and had made it a priority to find a solution as soon as possible.
