TWO cars caught fire after a collision between four vehicles on the M40 near Oxford.

Two lanes of the M40 northbound between junctions 8a for Oxford and 9 for Bicester are closed as emergency services deal with the incident.

The speed signs have been set to 50mph in the area.

The accident just before 11.45am appears to have happened about halfway between the two junctions and there are reports of queues then stretching all the way back to 8a.

Stagecoach has warned there will be delays to its services.

Initially all three lanes were blocked but the fast lane is now open.

A spokeswoman for Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said fire crews were called to the scene at 11.43am.

They had the fires out shortly before 1pm and have left.

The vehicles are currently awaiting recovery, the spokeswoman added.
