Rose Hill’s summer extravanganza proved to be a riot of colour.

Youngsters had their faces painted all the colours of the rainbow and tried out horse-riding on Saturday at The Oval in Ashurst Way as part of a community picnic.

Three-year-old Amy Dallimore chose a pink design on Saturday and eight year-old Danny Rooney watched on as his sister Bridget had the finishing touches made to her painted face.

Amanda Chambers, of Spencer Crescent, and mum to Amy, Lily, eight, Katie, five, and Brooke-Amelia, 11 weeks, enjoyed the festival with friends and family.

Miss Chambers said: “We have lived in Rose Hill for 15 years and I think people are coming together a lot more. The children are always invited to clubs.”

The event, which celebrated the midway point of a Lottery-funded regeneration project.

Rose Hill community worker Fran Gardner said: “Part of the Lottery funding is to put on big community events. It is all about bringing diverse members of the community together.”
