AN ABINGDON charity which gives sexual health and drugs advice to youngsters has moved into a new home.

Abingdon Bridge moved into the former County Police Station in Bridge Street from its former home a few numbers down the road on Monday.

The building was donated by Cranbourne Homes, which is converting Abingdon’s Old Gaol complex off Bridge Street into luxury apartments and restaurants.

Abingdon Bridge chairman of trustees Chris Bryan said the charity was delighted.

He said: “This will become our centre of operations.

“In future, more of our work will be done in outreach centres around the town.

“We are already using facilities at Christ Church in North Abingdon for counselling and this is working really well.”

The 15-year-old charity’s five part-time staff give advice on drugs, alcohol, sexual health and education to 13- to 25-year-olds in drop-in sessions.

The redevelopment of the Grade II listed landmark Old Gaol site began in 2010, to create 61 homes, restaurants and a private underground car park.

Cranbourne Homes bought the site from Vale of White Horse District Council for £2m in 2007.
