VISITORS to Oxford’s Bodleian Library can learn more about the early years of the First World War in a new exhibition starting today.

The Great War: Personal Stories from Downing Street to the Trenches runs until November 2.

The displays draw on the library’s archives to tell the story of the first two years of the war and the impact it had on soldiers, civilians and politicians.

Bodleian Library spokeswoman Oana Romocea said: “The eyewitness accounts are so vivid and include Prime Minister Herbert Asquith’s private letters and those written by soldiers on the frontline.”
