Sorry, his digger was insured for road use, but not theft? I thouht about the cheapest insurance cover was called 'Third Party Fire & Theft' so what was this bloke paying for? Also, who'd own and vehicle for use with his or her work, and not get proper cover?

No, you can also get 3rd party insurance which only covers you against hitting someone else or property damage.

Several years ago when I was with Norwich Union. When I went to renew my 3rd party fire & theft insurance policy for my motorbike they said I could only have 3rd party or fully comp because I was under 25. Reason being too many youngsters were falsely claiming for fire or theft damage because they pranged their own bikes. I told them to shove it and went with someone else who would insure me 3rd P&T.
