LOVE is the theme for the Ashmolean Museum’s latest Live Friday event.

Since last year the museum in Beaumont Street has been running a series of late-night events so visitors can see exhibits after normal opening hours.

Love Friday will highlight love and courtship in the museum’s collection and there will be a series of performances on the theme of love next Friday.

There will be salsa dancing on the forecourt and folk duo Lizzie Nunnery and Vidar Morheim will perform a love-themed set in the Mallett Gallery.

Actors from 16/22, the Oxford Playhouse Young Company, will also take part.

Their performance in the Renaissance Gallery will be based on a series of scripts they have written after seeing paintings at the museum.

Jessica Hindley, 17, from Witney, who has been rehearsing with Oxford Brookes University student Brian Chandrabose, 19, pictured, said: “I think the Live Friday events are a great idea to get more people into the Ashmolean.

“We have been developing our scripts over the past few weeks.”

There will also be a speed-dating event in the Cast Gallery for 30 single women and 30 single men, and there will be two love-themed trails through the museum’s collection.

Love Friday will run from 7pm to 10.30pm.
