NEIGHBOURS heard an “almighty crash” when a car destroyed a garden wall in a residential Oxford street.

Police arrested a 33-year-old man after his red Volkswagen Polo collided with a silver Seat Leon and silver Jeep Patriot in Wharton Road, Headington, at about 11.10pm on Thursday.

The Polo knocked over a garden wall and reportedly hit another after mounting the pavement.

Wharton Road residents claimed the Polo also collided with a third car, which was turning around in the road. It is believed no one was injured.

Resident Ping Lo, 60, a retired pharmaceutical worker, said: “My husband told me about it. He said there had been an almighty crash.”

A spokesman from Thames Valley Police said the driver of the Polo was arrested on suspicion of driving without due care and attention. He was bailed until August 14.

In a separate crash, a cyclist was taken to hospital with minor injuries after colliding with a police car on an emergency call at about 11.30pm on Thursday.

The 25-year-old cyclist was taken to Oxford’s John Radcliffe Hospital after colliding with the car near Tesco at the Cowley eastern bypass junction.
