A MURDER trial witness has denied he is medically delusional after testifying that a woman helped kill two children in a house fire.

Fiaz Munshi, 38, denies murdering Majid Khan, 15, and his eight-year-old sister Anum in the blaze in Magdalen Road in 1997.

Witness Sunder Khutan has told Oxford Crown Court jury he travelled to Oxford in the same car as Fiaz and her sister Riaz on the night of the arson attack.

The 37-year-old, who took the witness stand for the fifth day yesterday, defended his account under cross-examination for the third day.

Stephen Kamlish, defending Munshi of Manley Road in Oldham, suggested the house was targeted not because of a family feud with the Munshi sisters but because of a drug dispute between the victims’ elder brother Amjad Khan and Mr Khutan’s friends.

And he said Mr Khutan was lying when he said he knew nothing about Mr Khan until after the attack.

He said to the witness: “That was the problem. Amjad was becoming too big and getting too much money. That was why this fire was set. It was a drug dispute wasn’t it?

“You are pretending or you are playing down the real reason for this fire.”

But the Mr Khutan denied it and said: “If I knew about Amjad I would have told you.”

The witness also denied it when Mr Kamlish said: “You are what is classed medically as delusional – you believe things that are not true.”

The trial continues.
