Peter and Jean Goodgame, who also celebrate their diamond anniversary today, were born and raised in Oxford, and still love the city.

But 15 years ago, they retired to Dawlish in Devon, realising a dream Mr Goodgame had held ever since he did his national service with the RAF in Plymouth.

It was after he came out a leading aircraftsman that he took a job in the packing department at Morris Motors in Cowley.

One day he cut his finger on a saw and was bandaged by 18-year-old Jean Bowman.

Mr Goodgame said: “She bandaged it up for me and I started chatting her up.

“We went out on a date and now it’s 60 years on.”

The couple were married at Littlemore church on June 26, 1954.

They have four children, Norman, Jacqueline, Nigel and Judith, as well as nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. And the Goodgames will be reunited with them when they return to Oxford tomorrow to celebrate their 60 years of married life with some of their family.
