JAMES Bolton and Sophie Carter took the men’s and ladies’ honours with strong showings at the CPM Thame 10K.

Bolton (Woodstock Harriers) retained his title after seeing off Paul Fernandez (Abingdon) in a chip time of 33mins 14secs.

Carter, from Woodstock, was the first lady home by more than a minute.

Running for first-claim club Belgrave Harriers, Carter clocked 37.00, with runner-up Liz Hartney (Reading) recording 38.04.

Bolton beat perennial rival Fernandez by 18 seconds to extend his lead in the Oxfordshire AA Road Race Grand Prix standings.

Matt Taylor (Belgrave Harriers) finished just adrift of Fernandez in third, clocking 33.45.

Nick Wojek (unattached) edged out Joe Bowness, from Oxford, for fourth place, recording 35.03 to the latter’s 35.09.

Belgrave athlete Melanie Wilkins, from Wallingford, was the third lady home in 38.58, with Reading Road Runners’ Elaine Phipps (39.05) four-th.

Hannah Hale (Eynsham Road Runners) was the fifth lady home and second senior in 39.44.

ABINGDON’S men and Radley’s ladies will compete in the Southern Counties Veterans League finals after winning their respective Western Division titles.

A fourth win from four outings on Monday night at Tilsley Park saw Abingdon finish top of the men’s table on 32 points ahead of Oxford City (25), Swindon Harriers (24) and Radley (23).

The ladies’ contest went down to the wire, with Radley (28.5) pipping Newbury (28) by half a point, despite coming third on the night.

Radley finished behind Newbury and Abingdon, who were third overall with 25.5 points, but it was enough to reach the final at Ashford on September 7.
