A VOLUNTEER dubbed a “shining example” has been presented with an award from Bicester Rotary recognisng his hard work.

Jason Slaymaker, 22, from Bicester, organised last year’s Queen’s Jubilee Celebrations and worked on this year’s Bicester Big Lunch.

He is a currently chairman of Grassroots Bicester and was previously the chairman of Bicester Youth Council.

The fine art student was presented with a certificate for ‘Exceptional Services to the Community’ at the Pioneer Square first birthday celebrations.

Mr Slaymaker, who hopes to pursue a career in the voluntary sector, said: “I like to know that I am making a difference and I love being involved in the community.’’

Jolanta Lis, the outgoing President of the Rotary Club, said: “Too often young people attract attention for all the wrong reasons and there is an unfair assumption that they are not interested in doing things for their community, but this is very far from the truth.”
