OXFORD was the seventh most visited town or city in the UK last year, figures show.

In 2013 456,000 people came to the city for “staying visits” – which means they spent a night in Oxford.

This figure is up from the previous year when 430,000 people visited the city.

London was the most visited town or city in the UK with more than 16m staying visits.

How many of those "paying visits" were parents visiting their student children for weekends and graduation. There are 50,000 of them (students) so that could be a large amount of the so called "tourist" visits.
