YOUNGSTERS gathered to sing wartime songs at an event on Sunday to commemorate fallen soldiers.

The group of 17 children from drama group Wychwood Saplings joined a First World War tea event at Wychwood Wild Garden in Shipton-under-Wychwood.

Children aged seven and above sang four songs from their forthcoming Second World War play Archibald’s War, about a teddy bear lost by an evacuee.

Drama group founder Mandyrae Large, from Lyneham, said: “It was a beautiful event by people that we have never seen before. New faces and old faces and it was just lovely.

"People had poppies and they talked about the people who lost their lives from our local village and it was just a quiet day of reflection.’’

  • The Saplings will perform Archibald’s War at Milton-under-Wychwood Village Hall on Saturday, September 6, at 7.30pm. Tickets are £6 for adults and £3 for under-16s. To book, call 07580 421224 from Wednesday next week.
