Oxfordshire has experienced heavy rainfall

First published in News

JUST 16 days into August, Oxfordshire has already had 95 per cent of its expected rainfall for the entire month and double that of last year, according to the Met Office.

The county has seen 54.6mm of rain so far this month – compared to 27.8mm in 2013 – and this August is likely to be the wettest since 2010, when 124.4mm fell.

The Met Office has already issued five severe weather warnings for rain and one wind warning this month as thunderstorms swept the county.

This weekend looks to be drier, but northerly winds will bring cooler air and a dip in temperature, particularly at night.

The rain looks set to return early next week with the Met Office forecasting unsettled weather with a mix of sunshine and showers.

Oxfordshire’s wettest August on record was in 1977 when 144.5mm of rain hit the county.
