WE HAVE all heard our mums and dads scold us for playing with our food.

But baby Scarlett Birney’s favourite part of the sensory play day yesterday at Cutteslowe Park was the red, green and yellow food colour-dyed spaghetti.

Along with a group of other tots she took part in a messy playday, run by Mess Around, in The Pavillion.

Mum Stacey Birney, from Kirtlington, said: “She had a lovely time, she had a great day and was really engaged with the experiences. Her favourite part was the spaghetti, she kept trying to eat it.”

As well as messing about in pasta, there was also jelly and shaving foam for children to roll around in.

The weekly sessions are designed to encourage children to use their senses.

Lisa Honess, owner of Mess Around North Oxford and Kidlington, said: “We did sessions of messy play, and we do them so that parents do not have to say no all the time. It’s just a way for the kids to have lots of fun.”
