RESIDENTS at Iffley Residential and Nursing Home were visited by animals and held fundraising events to highlight International Homeless Animals Day.

Amongst the menagerie was a donkey, calf, pygmy goats, rabbits, guinea pigs, chicks and a labrador.

People also held a raffle and tombola to raise cash for the International Society for Animal Rights.

Jean Atkinson, 88, said: “I had a wonderful time meeting the animals, I loved it. My son came along for the afternoon and he thought it was fantastic too. All of the animals were so gentle and lovely.”

Care home bosses also said that animal therapy helped residents with dementia.

Activities leader Mandy Bloomfield said: “Our residents absolutely love animals and their faces lit up when they saw them.

“Animal therapy is very beneficial, especially for people living with dementia as it is really calming and relaxing.”
