SCOUT Sarah Dalton went for a spin in a Sainsbury’s trolley as the superstore named a Witney scout group its charity of the year.

The 13-year-old is a member of the Witney Buttercross Scout Group, which was chosen to be the supermarket’s charity partner for 2014/2015.

A book sale was held last Friday to launch the year, which raised £220.

Sarah said: “I think it is really good we were chosen because it means more people might get involved.

“The book sale went really well, and people donated lots of books – there were loads.”

Money raised from the year’s fundraising efforts will be put towards the £500,000 needed to create a new scout hut so the group can expand.

The club submitted plans in 2012 to convert the Stable Barn building, which stands opposite its Marlborough Lane base, into a state-of-the-art hub.

The site will provide extra room for three scout groups, four beaver colonies, three cub packs and an explorer unit.

Scout group leader Andrew Stokes said: “Hopefully we will be able to raise our profile and lots of money.”
