THE Fulscot Road railway bridge between Didcot and South Moreton reopened to traffic on Friday after it was shut for nine months to be rebuilt as part of a £1bn rail electrification programme.
Network Rail has raised the height of the bridge to allow the installation of overhead power cables to supply trains running between London and destinations including Oxford, Bristol, Cardiff and Swansea.
Senior programme manager Nigel Fenn said: “Significant work was needed to prepare this bridge for electrification and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the local community for their continued patience and understanding.
“Now this work is complete we are another step forward in ensuring that the region can benefit from the advantages that electrification and the new electric trains will bring.”
