HUNDREDS of cyclists biked around Oxfordshire yesterday for a ride set to become an annual celebration of cycling.
The Bike Oxford event took place yesterday and about 700 riders saddled up for one of three routes.
They could either cycle a 20-mile course, 50-mile course or an 80-mile course around Oxfordshire, all starting and ending at the Oxford University Rugby Football Club off Iffley Road.
One of the organisers, Jayne Fishwick, said: “It has been really good and the weather has helped.
“People seemed to enjoy the countryside and we have got some really positive feedback.
“The plan will be to make it an annual event.”
One of the people taking part was the city council’s Deputy Lord Mayor Craig Simmons, who completed the 50-mile course to raise funds for the Cowley Road Carnival.
He said: “It’s great – there were people of all ages and abilities.
“It was very well organised and I hope this is the first of many.”
The event was staged by Iconic Cycling Events which also organises Bike Bath, held in June.
