The sun set on another summer at Oxford’s Castle Quarter as the artifical beach was cleared away.

For the second year, the beach returned to the city to bring a bit of seaside splendour for children and adults alike.

The warm weather of the past week was the perfect ending as Ian Adshead, head of operations for Oxford City Council’s Aspire landscaping and removals team, and his trainee Graham Twycross yesterday shovelled up the sand, which will be handed to two primary schools for their own sandpits.

The deck chairs, volleyball nets and palm trees had already been packed up when the team came to bag the sand.

The beach opened at the start of the holidays on Friday, August 8.
