NEARLY 2.4 tonnes of rubbish was collected from this year’s St Giles’ Fair.
The two-day celebration on September 8 and 9 saw thousands flock to the city centre for the traditional funfair, opened by Lord Mayor of Oxford Mohammed Abbasi.
Oxford City Council waste and recycling operations manager Bob Brown said crews were well-prepared on Wednesday morning.
He said one-and-a-half tonnes of waste had been collected from bins put out for the fair, and another 880 kilos had to be swept up off the streets.

The waste and clean-up operation was paid for by fair organisers, the Showmen’s Guild of Great Britain, but contracted through the city council.
Mr Brown oversaw the collection of bins, while a separate team swept the streets.
He said the 2.4 tonnes of waste would now be going to Arldey waste recycling centre near Bicester, where some of it would be converted to electricity.
