An investigation into an incident where a police officer fired a Taser at a knife-wielding man at Banbury railways station has been handed back to Thames Valley Police.

As reported in the Oxford Mail, the officer fired a Taser at the man, who police said was harming himself, after he scaled a signal gantry on Monday.

It is not clear whether he was hit by the stun gun device.

The man fell from the gantry at about 2pm and was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, where he remains.

There was no update on his condition last night.

Thames Valley Police referred the incident to the Independent Police Complaints Commission for an investigation.

But the watchdog body has now referred it back to TVP for a local inquiry.
