A YEAR ago Christine Wallace was showing off her baking skills as she reached the quarter-finals of popular BBC TV show The Great British Bake Off.

Now she is set to launch a cookery book which she hopes will raise money for charity and help others in Didcot enjoy her passion for food.

Out of the Didcot Bake Off, created by Mrs Wallace and fellow baker Jeanette Howse, will feature recipes from celebrities including Coronation Street’s Wendi Peters and Great British Bake Off 2013 finalist Ruby Tandoh.

The book was launched yesterday at Didcot Tesco and Mrs Wallace said it will go on sale at shops in the town.

She said: “I wanted this to be very local so it involves local charities like the Balsam Family Project, which helps people who have parenting skill difficulties.

“It is fantastic to use my Bake Off success to help charity, especially local charities.

“Didcot has had some bad press in the past and it does not deserve it.”

Mrs Wallace, 67, used her connections from The Great British Bake Off to recruit fellow contestants and other celebrities to her cause.

She said: “My fellow bakers from last year have nearly all contributed, we have about 30 or 40 recipes in the book in total.

“I have contributed a recipe for canapes, both sweet and savoury, and Wendi Peters has created a cake.

“I hope other people can use the book to enjoy baking as much as me.

“I love it because it is so relaxing – I also love the fact I can be creative. I very much hope people get some satisfaction from the book as well.”

The book, which costs £5, will also be available from Balsam Family Project at Didcot Methodist Church, Broadway.
