A HEADINGTON resident captured this footage of a 60-year-old Scots Pine being felled in just 60 seconds.

The tree, in Bury Knowle Park, was chopped down by Oxford City Council’s tree parks team for safety reasons following damage caused during a storm earlier this month.

Web consultant Dominic Parkinson,49, was cycling with his three children when they spotted the giant tree.

He said: “There was a 50m cordon surrounding it, so it was obvious it wasn’t going to just be a few branches and it was going to come down.

“We went to get a closer look and it was pretty dramatic to be there.”

Headington ward councillor Ruth Wilkinson said: “The parks tree team informed me the Scots Pine was felled for safety reasons.

“The tree was damaged during a storm we had earlier this month and a crack appeared five metres from a cavity down the stem.

“Some people have asked me if it can be replaced with English oak and occasionally large trees are left for children to play on so we’ll have to see.

“The video certainly is very impressive.”
