OLYMPIC rower Katherine Grainger CBE is to become Chancellor of Oxford Brookes university.
Dr Grainger, who won three silver medals at Sydney, Athens and Beijing Olympics and gold at London 2012, will take over from current chancellor Shami Chakrabarti in March.
She has sat on judging panels for the university’s Social Entrepreneur Awards, and was awarded an honorary degree there this year.
Dr Grainger said: "I have huge admiration for each of my three predecessors as Chancellor of Oxford Brookes and I’m very honoured to have the opportunity to build on the outstanding work they have each done."
She said it was a particularly exciting time to join the university as it celebrates its 150th anniversary next year.
