A researcher at Oxford University has won second prize in a competition which celebrates the beauty of research into Parkinson’s disease.

Joel Beevers, 29, a PhD student at St Peter’s College, took the photo of stem cells seen through a microscope.

Mr Beevers cultivates stem cells and turns them into brain cells similar to those affected by Parkinson’s. He was runner-up in the Picturing Parkinson’s competition run by Parkinson’s UK, which funds research.
