A FEW people have come forward with new information about a Blackbird Leys murder 20 years ago, police say.

Dr Michael Meenaghan, 33, was a lecturer at Oxford University when he was shot through his kitchen window on December 10, 1994.

On the most recent anniversary of his death, Crimestoppers and police offered a £20,000 reward for information on the Monks Close shooting.

Police spokeswoman Hannah Williams said: “We have had calls in connection with the appeal, but we’ve had a very limited response.

“We are very keen to continue to appeal for people with any information to come forward by calling us on 101.”

Dr Meenaghan was shot at 4.30pm and, despite dialling 999, died of massive chest injuries before the police reached him.

When police announced the new reward money, his mother Pat Meenaghan, 82, said: “It is now 20 years since Michael, my only child, was murdered. His death is always with me and there is not a day goes by when I don’t miss him.

“We still don’t know why someone would be so callous as to take his life and rob the world of a lovely man and a gifted scientist. Twenty years is a long time to wait for answers.”
