HONG Kong-born pianist Linda Yi Pui Chan raised £100 for Oxford charity Oxfam by giving a concert.

Miss Chan said she took her audience of more than 50 people on a “musical journey” on Monday lunchtime with pieces by Beethoven and César Franck.

Her concert at St Michael at the Northgate Church, in Cornmarket Street, was part of the church’s Music on Mondays charity concert series.

Miss Chan, 30, who is studying piano performance at the Birmingham Conservatoire, said: “I enjoyed it very much. I chose the pieces because they’re rather contrasting. The César Franck piece is a good piece to end a recital, because it’s meditative at the beginning, then it’s like a journey, searching for something, and has a triumphant ending.”

She said she chose Oxfam as her charity because her mother used to raise funds for it, adding that this was her first concert in Oxford.

Next Monday’s concert, at 1pm, will be given by recorder player Fatima Laham.
