A WINDFALL of nearly £100,000 has been granted to the Museum of Oxford from the Arts Council.

The museum is one of 108 organisations to have been successful in the latest round of the Museums Resilience Fund, which enables museums to become more sustainable and resilient businesses.

The £97,775 is set to go towards a variety of projects, including developing its digital skills in visitor engagement and displays and training staff in new technologies and developing use of social media.

Oxford City Council, which runs the museum at the town hall, is expected to announce on March 27 whether it has found match funding and so can accept the grant.

Banbury Museum has also been awarded £35,175 in funding to undertake two research projects.

Hedley Swain, the Arts Council’s area director for the South East, said: “We are pleased to be able to support Banbury Museum and the Museum of Oxford.

“The investment will help both organisations put in place projects that will enhance their resilience and help to ensure they are able to continue to offer audiences a fantastic opportunity to engage with their work.”
