AN OXFORD-BORN actress has been given a starring role in a new drama series in the US.

Former St Edward’s School student Florence Pugh, 19, will star next to Will & Grace star Eric McCormack in Studio City to be aired on Fox.

Her father, Clinton Pugh, said: “It’s very exciting for her and an incredible opportunity. Obviously it’s a whirlwind experience for her but she’s absolutely perfect for the part.”

Miss Pugh will play an aspiring singersongwriter who grapples with her father’s double-life of music and drug dealing. Mr Pugh said there were no real-life comparisons.

He added: “She’s got a wonderful singing voice. Obviously this is only the pilot so the series hasn’t been picked up yet, but we’re very excited.”

Miss Pugh also co-starred alongside Games of Thrones actress Maisie Williams in the film The Falling, for which she was nominated for the best newcomer at the BFI awards.

Mr Pugh’s other children are equally talented. His 23-year-old son Toby Sebastian will be co-starring as Trystane Martell in the latest series of HBO’s Game of Thrones, which will premiere in April. Youngest daughter Rafaela, 12, recently won a drama scholarship to study at the Oxford High School.
