THESE pupils had the world at their fingertips as they swapped the classroom for a giant balloon.

The four metre high Earth Balloon is on tour as part of the Oxfordshire Green Schools Project with help from environmental charity Groundwork, which strives to educate schools across the UK on their impact on the planet.

Its latest stop was at East Oxford Primary School, where Year Three children got to see the world from a new perspective as they stepped inside the balloon.

Pupil Taqiyyah Shorkar said: “It was great being inside the world.” Fellow pupil Hassan Ahmed said: “It had lots of places.”

Headteacher Russell Kay said the pupils, aged seven to eight, were fascinated as they fired away questions at Groundwork leader Alan Macnaughton.

Mr Kay said: “We have a lot of multicultural students here and they got a chance to look at where they are from originally.”
