A CITY centre restaurant premises which has previously offered Cajun cooking, pizzas, and ribs will soon be serving up Bangkok street food – as well as an estimated 70 new jobs.

Thaikhun will be opening in George Street on a site that has changed hands several times over the last six years.

But entrepreneur and chef Kim Kaewkraikhot is hoping her authentic Thai food chain will continue to flourish in her first south England venture.

Thai Leisure Group (TLG) operates 11 restaurants and four cocktail bars in northern England and Scotland, but Oxford diners will be able to taste its Bangkok food at the end of April.

Ms Kaewkraikhot said: “We are so happy to open in Oxford and be able to invite local diners to experience authentic Thai eating just as you can on the streets of Bangkok.

“From my recipes which won me awards in Bangkok, to my partner Martin’s favourite dish, Khao Ka Moo, every dish is packed full of flavours and has a special story behind it. We can’t wait to see the people of Oxford enjoying their trip to Bangkok without leaving the UK.”

The restaurant is taking over the site of the former Cleaver chicken, burgers and ribs restaurant, which opened in December 2013 after the Fire and Stone pizza restaurant closed.

Old Orleans was on the site until September 2009.

Thaikhun’s opening will create about 70 jobs and will be recreate the food stall eating experience of Bangkok.

Ms Kaewkraikhot said: “Our tribute to my homeland doesn’t stop in the kitchen, as we wanted to truly bring Thailand direct to Oxford. So, Martin and I have hand selected most of the decor from a trip to Thailand.”

Customers will be able to choose from street bites, curries, stir fry, noodles and fish and meat from the grill.
