THE west end of Oxford is undergoing great change but we've been hunting through our archives and we've come up with some gems about how much it has all changed
First we'll look at what was the gasworks
- Here's looking from underneath Gasworks Bridge in 1960, which is now a footbridge but was a rail line carrying coal into the gasworks, as the towpath stretches away off to Folly Bridge, and, below, today
- The St Ebbe's maisonettes taking shape in 1960
- Here's a view of Gasworks Bridge, looking towards Osney
- Stepping back a decade into the 1950s...
- Now we're on the footbridge at the end of Beckett Street
- We're in Oxpens, with the car park off to the right and the entrance of what was the market, with the College on the left
- And more of the Oxpens market
And if this has sparked a few memories, remember our Memory Lane section is in the Oxford Mail every Monday. You may also like this
