TWO BLOXHAM women have smashed their fundraising target after organising a charity summer ball in honour of their mothers’ struggles with brain conditions.

Amanda Baxter, 45, and Sian Morris, 35, raised a staggering £26,000 from their Forget-Me-Not Ball in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society and the Stroke Association.

Mrs Baxter said: “We had only set a target of £6,000 so we can’t quite believe how much we’ve managed to raise, it’s absolutely phenomenal.

“We could never have expected that we would have received so much support. Everyone seemed to be having a fantastic time.”

The evening at Broughton Grange, Wykham Lane, hosted 185 guests and featured a raffle, food, music from local band Under the Covers and a silent auction including champagne dinners and B&B holidays.

Local businesses rallied around to help, including Bloxham-based GP Marquees, who lent two marquees for free, and Quarry Nurseries donating plants.

Broughton Grange owner Stephen Hester opened the property for free. Head gardener Andrew Woodall spoke with guests in the garden until the event ended in the early hours of the morning.
