AN OXFORD care home that was previously deemed inadequate has been rated ‘good’ by the government’s health watchdog.

The Albany Care Home was rated ‘inadequate’ by the Care Quality Commission in December 2014 after inspectors found a catalogue of issues that meant it didn’t meet requirements.

Last week, however, inspectors reported that the London Road care home, which houses 25 elderly people living with conditions such as dementia, was good in four out of five fields.

This was the second inspection since the care home was deemed inadequate.

In the first inspection in February, the inspectors said the care home required improvement.

In the most recent report, the CQC found that staff were caring, the service was safe, care was responsive and well-led.

The inspector’s report adds: “We found improvements had been made.

“Staff were knowledgeable about people’s needs.

“We saw staff supporting people in line with their care plans.”

Previously, the care home was rated inadequate in four of five fields, including safety.

Safety was highlighted as an issue due to the use of agency nurses, who weren’t well versed in the needs of residents.

In December, the CQC said: “Risks to people had been increased as the home was being staffed by agency nurses.”
