STAFF at a Cancer Research UK shop in Abingdon will wear 100 dresses this month to raise money as part of their Froctober campaign.

Nationally, October is Stand Up to Cancer month but the team at the shop in Bury Street have taken it one step further.

They will each wear a different dress – donated by residents – every day for the whole month. Local businesses have been asked to encourage their staff to turn up to work on Friday in a frock to join in the dressing-up fun.

The store’s assistant manager, Clare Oldfield, said: “We wanted to demonstrate the quality of what is donated to us by people and show off their generosity.

“I hope it’s something that will catch on as it’s a really fun way to raise money.

“We want Friday to be a sort of adult non-uniform day in Abingdon.”

The dresses range from high street favourites Boden and Karen Millen to designers such as Diane von Furstenberg and Joseph Ribkoff.

Money towards the team’s £1,000 target will be raised from people buying the selection of dresses and through sponsorship.
