YOU might not have expected people in David Cameron's Witney constituency to queue in the rain to get into a bargain store.

But there they were; ready with their raincoats and umbrellas, people queued from 8am on a Saturday morning to be the first through the door at the town's hotly-anticipated new Poundland.

With more than 500 stores up and down the country, the bargain chain founded in 1990 has finally arrived on the Prime Minister's doorstep.

As an added incentive the store even promised the first 100 people through its doors a £5 voucher.

And the very first person in that queue, bursting to get through the door, was 11-year-old Amy Robertshaw.

Amy, who lives nearby in Witney, had walked down to the High Street on her own at 8am and waited patiently to be allowed in.

So why was she so eager that she braved the rain on her own?

"I'm here to buy presents for my mum and dad, and the £5 voucher will help."

All together now: "Awwww!".

Amy was eventually joined by nine other people by the time the doors were finally flung wide at 8.30am and managers welcomed their first customers in out of the cold.

As to whether the PM has planned his first visit yet remains unclear.
